Synopsis: 

18 years before the events of the series, Cha Moon-sook commits a murder, silencing a man who dared criticize her late father. She enlists the help of gangster Ahn Oh-Joo to cover up the crime. However, lawyer Cho Jin-ae stumbles upon the truth, thanks to incriminating photos taken by Noh Hyung-Joo. In a tragic twist, Oh-Joo kills Jin-ae, but her young son, Bong Sang-pill, escapes with Hyung-Joo’s assistance. Sang-pill seeks refuge with his uncle Choi Dae-Woong, a gangster in Seoul. Meanwhile, Hyung-Joo is forced to leave her husband and daughter, Ha Jae-Yi, behind as she flees the country. Moon-sook ascends to prominence as a judge, while Oh-Joo becomes a wealthy corporate boss. Sang-pill and Jae-Yi both become lawyers in Seoul
